Jeff Mathis is a retired American professional baseball catcher who played for 15 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on March 31, 1983, in Marianna, Florida, and attended Marianna High School. Mathis was an exceptional athlete and played both football and baseball in high school. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the 2001 MLB draft, and quickly made his way through the minor leagues before making his debut in the majors in 2005.
