Reardon's best years were with the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox. He had an incredible year in 1988, when he saved 42 games for the Twins, and helped lead them to a World Series championship over the St. Louis Cardinals. He continued to have success in the 1990s with the Red Sox, where he saved 88 games over three seasons. In total, Reardon played for seven different teams during his 16-year career in baseball, and was a two-time All-Star selection.

In addition to his on-field success, Reardon faced personal tragedy in his life. In 2004, Reardon's son, Shane, died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Following his retirement from baseball, Reardon became an advocate for substance abuse awareness and founded the "Shane Reardon Memorial Foundation" in honor of his son. Jeff Reardon will forever be remembered as one of the best relief pitchers in baseball history, and for his commitment to raising awareness for substance abuse in honor of his son.
