Jerry Martin is a former American Major League Baseball player who was born on July 11, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina. Martin started playing baseball at the age of eight as he participated in Little League. After high school, he moved on to play college baseball at Clemson University, where he was distinguished for his exceptional hitting ability. In 1973, he was selected by the Phillies in the Expanded Amateur Draft, and he made his Major League Baseball debut with them in September 1974. He played seven seasons in the MLB, scoring 47 home runs and driving in 189 RBI's.
Martin is best known for his defense skills on the outfield. He played for the Phillies, Giants, Cubs, and Royals, and he got to the World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 1980. In 1983, he retired from professional baseball and moved up to the minors to coach at various levels.
