Leyritz is perhaps best remembered for his performance in the 1996 World Series against the Atlanta Braves. In game four, he hit a dramatic three-run home run off Braves pitcher Mark Wohlers to tie the game in the eighth inning. The Yankees went on to win the game and eventually the series, with Leyritz earning World Series MVP honors. Throughout his career, Leyritz played for six teams in total, including the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Texas Rangers. He retired from baseball in 2000 with a career batting average of .264 and 90 home runs.

Although Leyritz’s career was not without controversy, including a DUI arrest in 2007 that resulted in a conviction for manslaughter in 2010, he remains a beloved figure in Yankees history. Leyritz’s clutch performance in the 1996 World Series is etched in baseball lore and his ability to perform in pressure situations helped the Yankees win multiple championships. He currently runs a baseball training and consulting business and occasionally appears as an analyst on Fox Sports. Read even more about Jim Leyritz at Wikipedia
