Mason was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 1969 Major League Baseball draft. He made his Major League debut with the Yankees in 1971 and spent five seasons with the team. During his time with the Yankees, Mason was a key utility player, providing solid defense and timely hitting off the bench. In 1976, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he played for two seasons before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in 1978. Mason played his final season in the Majors with the Reds in 1979.

Throughout his career, Mason was known as a hard-working and dedicated player who always put the team first. He was well-respected by his teammates and coaches for his positive attitude and professionalism. While he may not have been a star player, he was an integral part of several successful teams and played an important role in helping his teams win games. After retiring from baseball, Mason went on to work in the insurance industry and currently resides in Alabama.
