Over the course of his 10-year career, Mecir played for several teams, including the Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and New York Yankees. He was known for his versatility as a pitcher, often being called upon to pitch in various situations, from middle relief to closing games. He was also known for his effectiveness against left-handed batters, as he held them to a .209 batting average throughout his career.

Mecir retired from baseball in 2005 due to a shoulder injury. He finished his career with a 31-25 record, 320 strikeouts, and a 3.77 ERA. After retirement, Mecer became a co-owner of a restaurant in Florida and became involved in various charitable organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Autism Speaks.
