After his playing career ended, Maddon became a coach and quickly made a name for himself in the industry. He joined the Los Angeles Angels as a coach in 1981, then moved on to the Seattle Mariners in 1993. In 1996, Maddon became the bench coach for the Anaheim Angels, where he spent over a decade as a key member of the coaching staff. Maddon’s ability to connect with players and create a winning culture caught the attention of the Tampa Bay Rays, who hired him as their manager in 2006.

As the manager of the Rays, Maddon quickly turned around the team’s fortunes. In just two years under his leadership, the Rays went from being one of the worst teams in baseball to one of the best. Maddon’s innovative approach to coaching, which included unconventional methods such as wearing themed outfits on road trips and giving unique nicknames to his players, helped to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere that also produced results on the field. Maddon led the Rays to the World Series in 2008, where they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies. He continued to manage the team until 2014, when he left to become the manager of the Chicago Cubs. In 2016, Maddon led the Cubs to their first World Series title in 108 years, cementing his legacy as one of the best coaches in baseball history. Read even more about Joe Maddon at Wikipedia
