Mauer was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2001 as the first overall pick. He spent a few years in the minor leagues before making his major league debut for the Twins in 2004. In his rookie season, he hit .308 with six home runs and 17 doubles, earning him the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Over the course of his career, Mauer became known for his exceptional fielding and hitting skills, earning numerous accolades, including six All-Star Game selections, three Gold Glove Awards, and five Silver Slugger Awards. He also won the American League Most Valuable Player Award in 2009, becoming the first catcher to do so since 1972.

In 2018, Mauer announced his retirement from baseball after 15 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. He retired with a career batting average of .306, 2,123 hits, and 143 home runs. Mauer remains a beloved figure in Twin Cities sports history and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Minnesota Twins' history. In addition to his impressive individual accomplishments, Mauer was also known for his leadership and team-first mentality, making him a fan favorite both on and off the field.
