Joe Mays is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for nine seasons in the MLB. He was born on December 10, 1975, in Northmont, Ohio, and attended Northmont High School before being drafted in the sixth round by the Seattle Mariners in the 1994 MLB draft. He opted to attend college instead and was later drafted in the fourth round by the Minnesota Twins in the 1996 draft.
Mays made his MLB debut in 1999 with the Twins and quickly established himself as a reliable starting pitcher. He had his best season in 2001 when he went 17-13 with a 3.16 ERA and was named an All-Star. He continued to pitch well for the Twins until injuries began to take a toll on his career. Mays underwent Tommy John surgery in 2004 and was never able to fully regain his form after the injury.
Mays played for several other teams, including the Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Angels, before retiring in 2009. He finished his career with a record of 48-70 and a 5.05 ERA. Despite the injuries and setbacks, Mays was known for his competitiveness and determination on the mound, and his career serves as a testament to the perseverance required to succeed in professional sports.
