Bench quickly made a name for himself as a force to reckoned with at the plate, and behind it. He was known for his powerful arm, incredible defensive skills, and his ability to call a great game from behind the plate. Bench became the anchor of the "Big Red Machine" a Cincinnati Reds team that dominated the 1970s, and won World Series Championships in 1975 and 1976. In his career, he hit 389 home runs, drove in over 1,300 runs, and had a .267 batting average. He was a 14-time All-Star, two-time National League MVP, an eight-time Gold Glove winner, and a 10-time Silver Slugger winner.

In 1989, Bench was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest catchers to ever play the game. Additionally, his contributions to baseball earned him a place in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame, as well as being honored with a retired number 5, at Great American Ballpark. Today, Bench remains one of the most beloved and respected players in baseball, not only for his outstanding performance on the field but also for his extensive charitable work off of it.
