Johnny Kucks was a former Major League Baseball pitcher born in Hoboken, New Jersey on July 27, 1932. He started his baseball journey playing in high school before being signed by the New York Yankees in 1952 after he graduated from St. Michael's College. Kucks became a professional player in 1956 at the age of 23 when he debuted for the Yankees. He played for 8 seasons from 1955-1961 and ended his career with the Washington Senators. During his time with the Bronx Bombers, Kucks was part of the championship team that won the World Series in 1956. In that series match, he pitched a complete game in the series-deciding Game 7 against the Brooklyn Dodgers, and only gave up 1 run in 9 innings. He took control of the game and shut down the Dodgers, which gave the Yankees the win they needed.
