Jon Matlack Autographs
Jon Matlack is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for four different teams during his 13-year career. Matlack was born on January 19, 1950, in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He attended West Chester East High School, where he excelled in both baseball and basketball. Matlack then went on to attend West Chester University, where he continued to play baseball and won several awards, including the 1969 NCAA Division II Baseball National Player of the Year.
In 1969, Matlack was drafted by the New York Mets in the first round of the amateur draft. He made his debut with the Mets in 1971 and quickly established himself as one of the best young pitchers in the game. In 1972, Matlack won the National League Rookie of the Year Award after posting a 15-10 record with a 2.32 ERA. Matlack continued to be a dominant force on the mound for the Mets, earning three All-Star Game selections and leading the team to the 1973 National League pennant.
After spending nine seasons with the Mets, Matlack was traded to the Texas Rangers in 1980. He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves before retiring in 1983. Throughout his career, Matlack recorded 125 wins, 1264 strikeouts, and a 3.18 ERA. He was known for his left-handed pitching, precise control, and effective changeup. In 1985, Matlack was inducted into the West Chester University Athletics Hall of Fame. Today, he continues to be recognized as one of the greatest pitchers in Mets history.
