Jordan Lyles was born on October 19, 1990, in Hartsville, South Carolina. He was a standout player at Hartsville High School, where he excelled as a pitcher and was named Gatorade South Carolina Player of the Year in 2008. As a highly-touted prospect, Lyles was drafted by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft and made his Major League debut at the age of 20 in 2011.
During his time with the Astros, Lyles struggled to find consistent success, as his ERA remained above 5.00 in each of his first four seasons. In 2014, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies, where he continued to struggle with his control but was able to improve his numbers by limiting home runs. After a brief stint with the San Diego Padres, Lyles joined the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018, where he had his best season yet with a 3.31 ERA in 35 appearances.
Throughout his career, Lyles has shown promise as a starting pitcher but has also seen success as a long-reliever and occasional spot-starter. He has continued to improve his control in recent seasons, relying on a mix of fastballs, changeups, and sliders to keep opposing batters off-balance.
