Jose Valverde Autographs

Jose Rafael Valverde, also known as "Papa Grande," is a former MLB pitcher born in 1978 in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He attended the National School of Baseball in the Dominican Republic before being signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1997. Valverde began his professional baseball career as a starter before transitioning to a relief pitcher.
Valverde's baseball career spanned over a decade, during which he played for several teams, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, and New York Mets. He was known for his unique delivery style, which included a slow wind-up followed by a fast pitch. Valverde made his mark in the MLB as a dominant closer and was selected for three All-Star games. Valverde was also a recipient of the MLB Delivery Man of the Year award in 2007, and he was the first closer to record 49 saves in one season without blowing a save, a feat that he achieved in 2011 with the Detroit Tigers.
Valverde retired in 2017 with a career ERA of 3.27 and 288 saves. He was fondly remembered for his spirit and energy on the field, as well as his penchant for spirited celebrations after securing a win for his team. Off the field, Valverde was known to be a mentor to younger players, and he frequently gave back to his community through charitable donations and service. Overall, Valverde was an outstanding professional athlete who left an indelible mark on the MLB with his talent, passion, and unique pitching style.
