Juan Marichal was born in Laguna Verde, Dominican Republic in 1937. As a young child, he learned to play baseball with his father and eventually signed with the San Francisco Giants in 1957. He quickly established himself as one of the best pitchers in baseball, thanks to his impressive fastball and pinpoint accuracy. Marichal's most memorable game came on July 2, 1963, when he threw a no-hitter against the Houston Colt .45s (now the Astros). The game lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes, and Marichal struck out 5 batters while walking just one. He finished the season with a 25-8 record and a 2.41 ERA, and earned National League Pitcher of the Year honors.
