Kent Mercker Autographs
Kent Mercker is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for a total of 18 seasons. Mercker was born on February 1, 1968, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Dublin High School in Dublin, Ohio, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. Mercker was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 1986 MLB draft.
Mercker made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 1989, where he played through the 1995 season. During his tenure with the Braves, he was part of the team that won the 1995 World Series, where he pitched two scoreless innings in Game 6. He also had notable performances such as pitching a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994, and pitching three innings of no-hit ball in the 1991 All-Star Game. Mercker went on to play for several other teams, including Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs, before retiring after the 2008 season.
Throughout his career, Mercker recorded 74 wins, 90 losses, and an ERA of 4.11. He appeared in 645 games, pitching 1311 innings and striking out 882 batters. Mercker was known for his versatility on the mound, as he was used as a starter, reliever, and closer throughout his career. His contributions to the Atlanta Braves organization were recognized when he was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2010. Today, Mercker is involved in several philanthropic efforts, including the Maternal and Fetal Health Research Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
