Koji Uehara Autographs
Koji Uehara is a retired Japanese professional baseball player who enjoyed an illustrious career in Japan and the United States. He was born on April 3, 1975, in Neyagawa, Osaka, Japan. Uehara started his baseball career playing for the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League. He spent a total of 10 years with the Giants from 1999 to 2008, winning the Central League MVP award in 1999 and three Japanese Series titles during his tenure.
In 2009, Uehara made the decision to join the Baltimore Orioles in MLB. He was initially used as a starter but transitioned into a reliever with much success. In 2011, he signed with the Texas Rangers, where he became a dominant closer, setting a club record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched and earning a spot on the 2013 All-Star Team. In that same year, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox, where he played a key role in their postseason success, earning the World Series MVP award in 2013 after striking out the final batter of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Koji Uehara retired from professional baseball in 2018 after 20 years of playing. Throughout his career, he recorded a 95-67 record, a 2.66 ERA, and 1013 strikeouts in 942 innings pitched. He was the first Japanese-born pitcher to record a save in the World Series and was known for his devastating splitter and exceptional control. Uehara's impact on both Japanese and American baseball was significant, and he will always be remembered as one of the game's greats.
