Parrish played for the Detroit Tigers from 1977 to 1986, where he established himself as one of the best catchers in the league. He had an excellent season in 1982, where he hit 32 home runs and had 87 runs batted in (RBIs), and was named an All-Star for the first time. Parrish was vital to the 1984 Tigers team that went on to win the World Series, where he hit .276 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in the postseason. His skill on defense was also critical to the Tigers' success, as he threw out 25% of base runners that attempted to steal against him.

Parrish's career continued to flourish even after leaving Detroit. He was an All-Star with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1988, and again with the California Angels in 1990. Parrish retired from baseball in 1995, and his record consisted of 1,886 hits, 324 home runs, and 1,070 RBIs. He was considered one of the best catchers of his generation and was later inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Read even more about Lance Parrish at Wikipedia
