Larry Bowa is a former Major League Baseball player and manager. Born in Sacramento, California in 1945, Bowa began his baseball career playing for Sacramento City College before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1965. Bowa quickly established himself as a solid shortstop, earning his first All-Star selection in 1972. He spent the majority of his playing career with the Phillies, earning five Gold Glove Awards and leading the National League in steals in 1970 and 1974. Bowa also played for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets before retiring as a player in 1985. More about Larry Bowa

After retiring as a player, Bowa transitioned into coaching and managing. His first coaching job was with the San Diego Padres, where he served as their third base coach. He then went on to manage the Phillies from 2001-2004, leading them to a playoff appearance in 2001. Bowa also managed the Cubs for 120 games during the 1986 season.
