Lee Maye was an American baseball outfielder who enjoyed a successful career in the major leagues from 1959 to 1971. Born on December 11, 1934, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Maye was a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. Off the field, Maye was known for his easygoing personality and his love of music. He was a talented singer who often performed before games and in nightclubs. In fact, after retiring from baseball, Maye pursued a career as a musician and released several R&B albums. Sadly, Maye passed away in July 2002 at the age of 67, but he will always be remembered as a beloved player and a trailblazer for African-American athletes in baseball.
