Lee Maye Autographs
Lee Maye was an American baseball outfielder who enjoyed a successful career in the major leagues from 1959 to 1971. Born on December 11, 1934, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Maye was a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. After graduating, he was signed as a professional baseball player by the Milwaukee Braves in 1954.
Maye made his debut in the major leagues in 1959, playing for the Milwaukee Braves. He quickly established himself as a reliable outfielder and a versatile hitter, batting a solid .326 in his rookie season. Over the next decade, he played for the Braves, the Houston Astros, the Cleveland Indians, and the Washington Senators. He had some of his best years in Houston, where he batted .304 with 20 home runs in 1962 and earned his only All-Star nod in 1965. By the time he retired in 1971, Maye had amassed a respectable .274 batting average, 81 home runs, and 431 RBI in his 13-year career.
Off the field, Maye was known for his easygoing personality and his love of music. He was a talented singer who often performed before games and in nightclubs. In fact, after retiring from baseball, Maye pursued a career as a musician and released several R&B albums. Sadly, Maye passed away in July 2002 at the age of 67, but he will always be remembered as a beloved player and a trailblazer for African-American athletes in baseball.
