Lefty Gomez Autograph

Lefty Gomez was a Hall of Fame left-handed pitcher who played for the New York Yankees from 1930 to 1942. Born on November 26, 1908, in Rodeo, California, Gomez was known for his flamboyant personality and his ability to throw the ball with great accuracy. Known for his high leg-kick, Gomez was one of the most popular players of his time. He had a career record of 189–102 and a lifetime ERA of 3.34. He also had 1,468 strikeouts and 28 shutouts. In 1933, Gomez went 24-7 with a 3.67 ERA, earning him the American League MVP award. He was also selected to the All-Star team that year, the first of his seven career All-Star selections. The following year, Gomez was a member of the Yankees team that won the World Series, and he would go on to win four more championships in his career.

After retiring from baseball, Gomez became a television sports commentator and became known for his colorful personality and quick wit. He also worked as a pitching coach for the Washington Senators and coached pitchers like Jim Kaat and Dick Bosman. Lefty Gomez will always be remembered as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball, and his contributions to the sport will never be forgotten by fans of the game.
