Leonys Martin was born on March 6, 1988, in Villa Clara, Cuba. He is a professional baseball player who currently plays as the center fielder for the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball. He began his professional baseball career in Cuba with Villa Clara before defecting to the United States in 2010 to pursue a career in Major League Baseball.
Martin made his MLB debut on September 2, 2011, with the Texas Rangers. During his debut season, he played in 49 games and had an impressive .259 batting average. In his second season, he played in 147 games and accumulated 12 stolen bases, showing his capability as a speedy player. In 2014, Martin had a breakout year, hitting 7 home runs and 40 RBI's and was considered one of the top defensive center fielders in the league. Throughout his career, Martin played for various teams like the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, and Chicago Cubs.
Martin has won numerous awards and accolades throughout his baseball career. He was nominated for a Gold Glove award in 2014 for his defensive skills in the outfield.
