Throughout his career, Boudreau was known for his textbook swing, which led to a high batting average and a knack for clutch hitting. He was also highly regarded for his glove work, as he won the A.L. Gold Glove Award for shortstops in its inaugural year of 1947. Boudreau's baseball IQ was second to none, and it was this ability to read the game that ultimately led him to become a successful manager after his playing days were over. From 1942 to 1950, he served as player-manager of the Indians, leading them to a World Series appearance in 1948. Boudreau also managed the Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Athletics, and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 12-year managerial career.

After his managerial days were over, Boudreau found success as a broadcaster, providing color commentary for the Chicago Cubs, ABC, and NBC. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970, and his number 5 was retired by the Cleveland Indians in 1972. Throughout his life, Lou Boudreau was viewed as a gentleman of the game, known for his sportsmanship and his love of baseball. Read even more about Lou Boudreau at Wikipedia
