He is a retired Venezuelan professional baseball right fielder who played nine seasons with the Chicago White Sox and five seasons with the Detroit Tigers. Ordonez began his baseball career in 1991 when he signed with the Chicago White Sox at the age of 17. After a brief stint in the minor leagues, he made his MLB debut in 1997. Ordonez quickly established himself as one of the top hitters in the league, batting .320 or higher in three out of his first four seasons. In 2002, he won the American League batting title with a career-high .320 batting average.
