Mark Littell is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played in the league for 9 years between 1973 and 1982. Littell started his baseball career in the minor leagues in 1970, where he played for three years before debuting for the Kansas City Royals in 1973. He played for the Royals for seven years and was a vital contributor in helping the team win the American League pennant in 1980.
Littell was a right-handed relief pitcher whose best years in the MLB was in 1976 and 1977, where he was named as an All-Star both years. In 1976, Littell assisted the Royals in reaching the ALCS with his excellent performance, where he won one game and saved one game with a 0.00 ERA. Littell’s powerful fastball and curveball became his trademark, and he utilized them to become one of the top relievers of his time.
In his final year in the MLB, Littell was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he finished his career with nine wins, 18 saves, and a 3.32 ERA. After retiring from professional baseball, Littell worked as a pitching coach for various minor league teams and also operated a successful hay baling business. However, his MLB career remains an impressive accomplishment, and he is recognized as one of the best relievers in Royals history.
