Matt Cain is a retired American professional baseball pitcher who is best known for his successful career with the San Francisco Giants. Born on October 1, 1984, in Dothan, Alabama, Cain developed a keen interest in baseball at a young age and eventually pursued it as his career. After being drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2002 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft, Cain quickly rose through the ranks and made his debut with the major league team in August 2005. Over his 13-year career, Cain established himself as one of the most successful starting pitchers in the league. He was a three-time All-Star and helped the Giants win three World Series titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Cain was known for his excellent fastball, command of the strike zone, and his ability to keep opposing batters off balance. In his best season in 2011, he had a 2.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 179 strikeouts in 221.2 innings pitched.

Cain announced his retirement at the end of the 2017 season, finishing his career with a record of 104-118, a 3.68 ERA, and 1,694 strikeouts. He left a lasting legacy in San Francisco, where he was considered one of the key members of the team's successful run in the 2010s. Cain was also known for his charitable work, particularly his involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, for which he was awarded the Willie Mac Award in 2012.
