Matt Lindstrom was born on February 11, 1980, in Rexburg, Idaho. Lindstrom attended Ricks College where he played baseball for two seasons before transferring to Brigham Young University (BYU) to finish his college baseball career. In 2002, he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the MLB draft. Lindstrom made his Major League debut on April 7, 2007, as a member of the Miami Marlins. Lindstrom spent four seasons with the Marlins before being traded to the Houston Astros in 2010. During his time with the Marlins, Lindstrom was known as a dominant closer, recording 45 saves in 57 opportunities, and helped lead the Marlins to a 2008 playoff berth. With the Astros, Lindstrom continued to perform well as a setup man, posting a 2.72 ERA in 52 appearances during the 2010 season.
