Max Lanier Autographs
Max Lanier, born on August 18, 1915, was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball. Lanier began his baseball career in 1937 by signing with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a left-handed pitcher and quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional control and strong curveball. Lanier proved to be a valuable asset to the Cardinals, and he helped the team win two pennants and one World Series Championship in 1942.
Lanier's baseball career was put on hold during World War II as he served in the military for three years. After he returned, he continued to play for the Cardinals until 1951. Lanier was then traded to the New York Giants, where he played for two seasons before being traded again to the St. Louis Browns. However, he retired from baseball in 1954 after experiencing arm problems.
Max Lanier's professional baseball career spanned over 10 years, during which he won 108 games and had an ERA of 3.43. He was an All-Star in 1943 and 1944 and known for his pinpoint control and ability to keep the ball low. Lanier's contributions to the Cardinals' championship-winning team in 1942 were particularly significant, as he won two games in the World Series. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1973, and his legacy as one of the best left-handed pitchers of his era remains to this day.
