Michael started his baseball career when he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round (ninth overall) of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft. He played for the Twins for a decade, during which he established himself as a reliable hitter and a versatile fielder. In 2011, Michael was named to his first All-Star team, and he earned the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2013. He also became the first player in Twins history to record over 70 extra-base hits in a single season. Michael joined the Colorado Rockies in 2012, where he continued to be a standout player. He played for the Rockies for three years before joining the New York Mets in 2015 for one final season before his retirement.

Throughout his career, Michael played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, amassing 1,522 hits, 197 home runs, and 794 RBIs. He was known for his tenacity on the field, and he was a great team player who always gave his all in every game.
