Mike Lowell is a former baseball player, born on February 24, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lowell started his baseball career in 1995 when he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 20th round of the MLB draft. He made his Major League debut on September 13, 1998, with the Yankees, but he played for just a year with them. Lowell spent seven seasons with the Florida Marlins and played a crucial role in the team's World Series victory in 2003. During his time with the Marlins, Lowell was known for his excellent defense and powerful hitting. He received the Gold Glove award in 2005 and was a three-time All-Star as well. In 2005, he hit .236 with 12 homers and 47 RBI in 122 games; the following year, he improved his numbers to .280, 20 homers, and 80 RBI in 150 games. Lowell was also a key part of the Marlins' run to the National League Championship Series in 2003 and their World Series win against the Yankees.

After spending a successful seven years with the Marlins, Lowell was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2006. There, he became a vital part of the team's 2007 World Series-winning team, hitting .400 with 1 homer and 4 RBI in the series to earn him the World Series MVP award. Lowell finished his career with the Red Sox in 2010, where he had a .465 slugging percentage in his time with the team. After his retirement, he worked as an MLB Network analyst and later joined the Miami Marlins as a special assistant to the team's general manager. Lowell's excellent career was marked by his success with the Marlins and the Red Sox; he retired with a .279 career batting average, 223 homers, and 952 RBI.
