Mike Matheny Autographs
Mike Matheny is an American former professional baseball catcher and manager. Born on September 22, 1970, Matheny played his high school baseball at Reynoldsburg High School in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and then attended the University of Michigan where he played collegiate baseball. After graduating in 1993, he was drafted in the eighth round by the Milwaukee Brewers and began his professional career. Throughout his career, Matheny played for various teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants. He won four Gold Glove awards for his outstanding skills as a defensive catcher.
After retiring from playing in 2006, Matheny was named a special assistant to the general manager for the Cardinals before eventually being named the team’s 49th manager in 2011. He led the Cardinals to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons as a manager, reaching the World Series in his second season. During his tenure with the Cardinals, Matheny compiled a record of 591-474 and was named National League Manager of the Year in 2015. In 2018, he was fired after the Cardinal’s struggled and went on to become a special advisor for player development for the Royals.
Mike Matheny’s dedication and commitment to baseball inspired many players and coaches throughout his career. He served as a spokesperson for the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers’ Society and developed a reputation for being a skilled communicator and leader. With a lifetime batting average of .239, Matheny’s success on the field was driven by his ability to be a consistent catcher and a valuable asset to his team. Despite the challenges he faced during his management career, Matheny remained optimistic and continued to inspire others to reach their full potential both on and off the field.
