Wilson quickly made a name for himself as a speedy outfielder and a clutch hitter. He was an integral part of the Mets’ 1986 World Series championship team, famously hitting the ball that went through Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner’s legs in Game 6 of the series.

Throughout his career, Wilson amassed an impressive .274 batting average and stole over 300 bases. He was a two-time National League All-Star and won a Gold Glove Award in 1982. Wilson’s contributions to the Mets organization were recognized in 1996 when he was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame.
