O.J. Mayo is a former American professional basketball player born on November 5, 1987, in Huntington, West Virginia. He first gained prominence as a high school basketball player in the United States and was widely regarded as one of the best players in the country. Mayo was selected as the third overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he was traded on draft night to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he spent the first four seasons of his NBA career. He had a strong rookie season where he averaged 18.5 points per game and was named to the All-Rookie First Team. He was also selected to participate in the Rookie-Sophomore game during the NBA All-Star weekend.

Mayo continued to put up solid numbers over the next few seasons, and he became known for his ability to score the basketball. He had his best season statistically in 2010-11, where he averaged 18.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2012, where he played for three seasons before his career began to decline.
