Meares made his MLB debut in 1993 with the Twins, playing 74 games in his rookie season. Over the years, he played for teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers, but he is best known for his time with the Twins. He played for the Twins from 1993 to 1998, during which he was a solid hitter, a reliable fielder, and a fan favorite. Meares was part of the Twins' 1991 championship team and was known for his clutch hits and game-saving defensive plays.

Meares retired from baseball in 2001 after nine seasons in the majors. He finished his career with a .256 batting average, 784 hits, 80 home runs, and 443 RBI. After his playing days were over, Meares worked as a youth baseball coach and briefly served as a coach for the Tampa Bay Rays.
