Paul Mitchell Autographs

Paul Mitchell was a professional baseball pitcher who played in the major leagues during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Born in Fort Riley, Kansas, in 1952, he began playing baseball at a young age and eventually ended up at Wichita State University, where he played for legendary coach Gene Stephenson. After graduation, Mitchell was drafted by the Minnesota Twins, but he was soon traded to the Oakland Athletics, where he made his major league debut in 1975.
Mitchell quickly established himself as a reliable reliever, posting a 2.59 ERA in 37 games in his rookie season. In 1977, he became the A's closer and recorded 19 saves, earning him a spot on the American League All-Star team. Over the next few years, he continued to be a key member of the A's bullpen, but injuries started to take their toll. Mitchell was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982, but he struggled with his new team and was released after only one season.
Despite his relatively short career, Mitchell remains one of the most successful pitchers in Wichita State history. He went on to become a scout for the A's, and his son, Paul Mitchell Jr., followed in his footsteps and played college baseball at Wichita State. Mitchell passed away in 2019 at the age of 66, but his legacy lives on as one of the best relief pitchers in A's history.
