Plácido Polanco is a retired Dominican professional baseball player. He was born on October 10, 1975, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He began his baseball career at the age of 16, playing in the minor leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals. Polanco soon made his MLB debut on June 8, 1998, and played for several teams including the Philadelphia Phillies, Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins, and the Texas Rangers. More about Placido Polanco

Polanco is widely known for his impressive defensive skills which earned him three Gold Glove awards in 2007, 2011, and 2012. He had a solid career batting average of .297 with 1,884 hits, 104 home runs, and 723 RBIs in 2,014 games played. In 2006, he was selected to the MLB All-Star Game and finished the season with an outstanding .298 batting average.

Despite battling injuries towards the end of his career, Polanco remained known for his consistency as a player and for being a reliable teammate. After 16 seasons in the Big Leagues, Polanco retired on September 27, 2013. He left a positive impression on the game and will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, his hard-hitting and his dynamic fielding abilities.
