Roe's career took off when he was traded to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948. He was a key member of the Dodgers' famous "Boys of Summer" team that won the National League pennant in 1949, 1952, and 1953. Roe was known for his sharp-breaking curveball and the unusual way he held the ball behind his back before delivering a pitch. He won 15 or more games in four different seasons and finished his career with a record of 127-84 and a 3.43 earned run average. Roe was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 1960 and the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame in 1995.

After retiring from baseball in 1954, Roe returned to Arkansas and worked as a farmer and a high school baseball coach. He remained involved in the sport throughout his life, often attending alumni events and community functions related to baseball. Roe passed away on November 9, 2008, at the age of 92. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the Brooklyn Dodgers franchise. Read even more about Preacher Roe at Wikipedia
