Rick Miller was born on August 14, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended the Grand Rapids Community College before transferring to Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, Miller played college baseball for the Spartans, where he was named the team's Most Valuable Player in both of his seasons. Miller made his major league debut for the Boston Red Sox in 1971. He quickly established himself as a reliable outfielder with a strong arm and excellent defensive skills. Miller's speed was an asset in both the outfield and on the bases, and he quickly became a fan favorite. During his time with the Red Sox, Miller won eight consecutive Gold Glove Awards for his outstanding defense. He played for the Red Sox until 1977 when he was traded to the California Angels. Miller played for the Angels for four seasons before retiring from professional baseball in 1982.

Miller ended his career with a .269 batting average, 70 home runs, and 471 runs batted in. He was also known for his excellent on-base percentage, with a career mark of .348. After retiring from baseball, Miller worked as a coach and scout for several major league teams, including the Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and Detroit Tigers. Today, Miller is retired and living in Michigan, where he remains involved in the baseball community. His contributions to the sport, both as a player and a coach, have made him a beloved figure in the world of baseball.
