Rickey Henderson is widely regarded as one of the greatest base stealers in the history of baseball. He was born on December 25, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois. Henderson's athletic talents were evident from a young age, and he honed his skills by playing baseball and football. He excelled in both sports and was offered scholarships to attend college. Henderson made his major league debut for the Oakland Athletics on June 24, 1979. He quickly made a name for himself as an outstanding leadoff hitter and base stealer. In fact, he holds the all-time record for stolen bases with 1,406. He won two World Series championships with the Athletics in 1989 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993. Henderson also earned the American League Most Valuable Player award in 1990, and he was a 10-time All-Star selection.

Henderson played for nine different teams during his 25-year career. He retired in 2003, finishing with a .279 batting average, 3,055 hits, and 1,115 runs batted in.
