Ron Guidry

Ron Guidry, also known as "Louisiana Lightning," had a significant career in professional baseball. Guidry was born on August 28, 1950, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and began his baseball career at the University of Louisiana in his hometown. He was later drafted by the New York Yankees in the third round of the 1971 Amateur Draft. Guidry's career highlights were impressive, including being a four-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glove winner, and two-time AL wins leader. One of his most famous performances was on August 7, 1978, when he pitched a complete game shutout against the Anaheim Angels, striking out a record-breaking 18 batters, a feat that still stands as a Yankees record. Guidry also won the Cy Young Award in 1978 after finishing the season with a dominant 25-3 record, a 1.74 ERA, and an incredible 248 strikeouts.

Guidry retired from baseball in 1988, but his legacy in the sport continues to this day. In 2003, he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2008, he was inducted into the New York Yankees Hall of Fame, joining legends such as Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle. His career numbers include a record of 170-91 with a 3.29 ERA and 1,778 strikeouts.
