Ron Santo was an American baseball player who was born on February 25, 1940, in Seattle, Washington. He was a highly successful player and was best known for his tenure with the Chicago Cubs. He began his baseball career in 1960 with the Cubs and remained with the franchise until 1973. During that time, he was an integral part of the team, earning nine All-Star Game selections, five Gold Glove awards, and placing in the top ten of the National League MVP voting four times. Santo was a formidable third baseman and one of the most feared hitters of his era. He had a career batting average of .277, including 2,254 hits, 342 home runs, and 1,331 runs batted in. In 2012, he was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding baseball career.
