Sandy Alomar Jr. is a former major league baseball catcher who played for six teams during his 20 year career in the league. Born on June 18, 1966, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, Alomar grew up playing baseball with his father, who was also a professional baseball player. After retiring as a player, Alomar transitioned into coaching, first serving as a first base coach for the New York Mets in 2008. He served as a catching instructor for the Indians in 2009 before being promoted to bench coach in 2010. In 2011, he became the interim manager for the Cleveland Indians after Manny Acta was fired. Although he did not get the permanent job, Alomar remained with the organization until 2017 when he left to become the first base coach for the San Francisco Giants. He has since returned to the Indians as their first base coach and catching instructor, where he continues to impart his knowledge and experience to younger players.
