Shairon Martis is a professional baseball pitcher from the Caribbean island of Curaçao. He was born on March 30, 1987, in Willemstad, which is the capital city of Curaçao. Martis began playing baseball at the age of four, and by the time he was six, he learned to pitch with both hands, which proved to be a significant asset in his future career.
Martis signed with the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent when he was only sixteen years old. He began playing professionally in 2005 and reached the Major Leagues for the first time with the Washington Nationals in 2008. In his debut season, he made history by becoming the youngest pitcher since 1960 to throw a complete-game shutout. He finished the season with a 5-3 record and a 5.66 ERA. Martis played with several Major League teams and participated in the World Baseball Classic in 2017, representing Team Netherlands.
Martis has also played in various baseball leagues worldwide, with stints in South Korea, Mexico, and Canada. In 2016, he won the Korean Series with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization.
