Sparky Lyle Autographs
Sparky Lyle is a former American Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher who had a successful career from 1967 to 1982. He was born on July 22, 1944, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, and played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago White Sox. Lyle pitched in 899 games, was awarded two All-Star honors, and won a World Series championship.
Lyle is mostly known for his successful years with the New York Yankees from 1972 to 1978. During that time, he had a record of 57-40, an ERA of 2.41, and 141 saves. In 1977, he was the American League's Cy Young award winner, an award given to the league's best pitcher. Lyle's work on the field helped the Yankees to two consecutive World Series championships in 1977 and 1978.
After retiring from baseball, Lyle managed several teams in the Atlantic League, including the Somerset Patriots. He led the Patriots to five league championships and won the league's Manager of the Year award four times. In addition to his managing career, Lyle is also the author of three books: "The Bronx Zoo," "The Year I Owned the Yankees," and "The Sweet Spot: A Novel about Maz's Baseball Community." Lyle's outstanding success in baseball earned him a respected spot in the sport's Hall of Fame.
