Blass's best season was in 1971 when he helped the Pirates win the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched a complete game shutout in the decisive seventh game of the series, earning the MVP award. Blass finished the season with a 15-8 record and a 2.85 ERA, and he led the National League in shutouts. His performance in the World Series earned him a place in baseball history and solidified his status as one of the best pitchers in the game.

Following his playing career, Blass embarked on a successful broadcasting career as a color commentator for the Pirates' radio and television broadcasts. He was inducted into the New England Sports Museum Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Blass is also known for the psychological disorder named after him, "Steve Blass Disease," which refers to the sudden inability of a previously successful athlete to perform his or her tasks. Despite his struggles with the condition, Steve Blass remained an integral part of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, and his legacy as a World Series champion remains in the annals of baseball history.
