Steve Carlton is considered one of the greatest left-handed pitchers in the history of baseball. He was born on December 22, 1944, in Miami, Florida. He began his baseball career as a pitcher for the Miami Dade Junior College team. Carlton was the first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1963 Major League Baseball Draft. His professional career began in 1965 when he made his debut for the St. Louis Cardinals.
