Moore’s baseball career began in the minor leagues, where he played for the Columbus Red Birds, the Cardinals’ farm team. In 1935, he was called up to the major leagues and made his debut with the Cardinals. He quickly made a name for himself as an excellent fielder, winning the Gold Glove Award three times in his career. He also had a solid offensive career, with a batting average of .280 and 428 runs batted in (RBIs). Moore’s best season came in 1939 when he helped the Cardinals win the National League pennant with a batting average of .309 and 13 home runs.

Moore’s career was interrupted by World War II when he joined the Navy in 1944. After the war, he played one season with the Oakland Oaks in the Pacific Coast League and then retired from baseball. Moore died in 1995 at the age of 83. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest defensive outfielders in baseball history and was posthumously inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.
