Thad Matta, born on July 11, 1967, is an American former basketball coach. However, before his successful coaching career, Matta was a passionate and talented baseball player. Matta grew up in Hoopeston, Illinois, and attended Hoopeston-East Lynn High School, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, and football. After his baseball career ended, Matta focused on basketball, which marked a turning point in his life. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Miami University in 1991-92. He then served as an assistant coach at Butler, Xavier, and Miami of Ohio before becoming the head coach of the Butler team in 2000. Matta's coaching career flourished, and he went on to coach Ohio State University for 13 seasons, where he led the Buckeyes to numerous victories, including the Final Four in 2007 and 2012.
