Martinez enjoyed his best season in 1983, helping the Orioles clinch the American League pennant and eventually win the World Series. During that season, he posted a 3-2 record with a 2.35 earned run average (ERA) in 62 games while racking up 21 saves. He also made a notable contribution in that year's World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, coming out of the bullpen as a left-handed specialist in Game 5 and striking out three consecutive batters to end the game. Martinez's performance earned him the nickname "Tip-Top," and forever etched his name in Orioles lore.

Over the course of his 14-year career, Martinez earned a reputation as a dependable, hardworking pitcher who could be counted on in critical situations. He appeared in 680 games, tallied 1158 strikeouts, and notched 115 wins and 91 saves, all with an impressive career ERA of 3.63. He retired in 1988 after stints with the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves, but remains a beloved figure among Orioles fans to this day. Read even more about Tippy Martinez at Wikipedia
