Tom Veryzer was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1971 Major League Baseball Draft, and he made his major league debut with the team three years later. During his first season in the majors, Veryzer played in 139 games and batted .252. He spent five seasons with the Tigers, where he was known for his strong defensive play and solid hitting. Veryzer was then traded to the Cleveland Indians, where he played for two seasons, before moving on to the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs for his final two years in the majors.

During his career, Tom Veryzer played in a total of 972 games, accumulating 572 hits, 188 RBIs, and 14 home runs. While he was not known for his power hitting, his consistent defense was valued by each team he played for. After his retirement, Veryzer served as a minor league coach and a scout. He passed away on August 31, 2014, at the age of 61. Veryzer will always be remembered as a solid contributor to the teams he played for and a respected member of the baseball community.
